From favourite pieces of tech to the best part of their job, as part of our our latest blog series, get to know our Soltech IT team a little better.

Describe your role at Soltech IT.
I’m the Technical Director as Soltech IT. I’ve been working here since August 2011, when I started as a part time employee. I was Richard’s first member of staff! After a matter of weeks I was working full time. My roles include planning for installs and upgrades, looking after the business customers and making sure the engineers are happy and completing all their work. No day is the same. One day you’re taking support calls, the next you’re planning a new server infrastructure for a multi million pound turnover company! Very exciting!
What skills do you think you bring to your role?
Having worked in various IT roles over the last 23 years, I feel I can deal with clients at all technical levels and understand their requirements.
What is your favourite piece of tech or gadget?
My Kerio Firewall as it lets me control my children’s internet access when they annoy me. Oh, the power! Closely followed by Spotify.
Outside of work what is your favourite thing to do in your spare time?
Trying to do exciting things with the children before they start arguing with each other.
What are you listening to/ reading/ watching at the moment?
In the last few months, I appear to have become addicted to 70’s Funk and Soul! Jackson Sisters, Tony Joe White, Nina Simone, The Jimmy Caster Bunch to name but a few. Watching... Game of Thrones. Reading… nothing anymore. Favourite book… And the Ass Saw The Angel by Nick Cave
Who would you invite (real, fictional, dead or alive) to your dream dinner party?
Aretha Franklin (to provide pre-diner entertainment), Prof. Stephen Hawking, John Belushi, Billy Connolly, Steve Jobs and The Bonzo Dog Band (to provide post-diner entertainment, because they are all mad!).

Recent months have also been a fantastic time for expansion within the company, with two fantastic new team members joining. You can read all about their new roles here and here! With us only set to grow more in the coming months, watch this space!

The Summer was rounded off with two award nominations. We are very proud to have been nominated for a Corporate Livewire Innovation and Excellence Award, for the second year in a row as well as

We are happy to announce that we will be attending the upcoming Business Showcase South West event on the 11th October at Ashton Gate Stadium, Bristol.

Not only will we be exhibiting on the day, we are also very excited to be presenting a seminar in the Dolman Hall, Seminar Area.  We are teaming up with Rowena Fielding and her colleagues from Protecture to bring you an informative and must see talk on the new General Date Protection Regulation (GDPR). Although lots of businesses are aware of the upcoming regulations many are not prepared for it's arrival on the 25th May.

The talk will take you through what to expect, the IT requirements you'll need to meet and the next steps for you and your business.

It would be really fantastic to see you there; to register for the talk head here & make sure to sign up to the free delegate ticket.
