Warning - Schools at risk of viruses

Soltech IT's, Richard Witcombe issues virus warning for schools.

"We have been made aware of very damaging viruses and ransom-ware spreading emails being past throughout our schools. These viruses cause significant issues within schools and other educational establishments and can take a significant period of time to recover from." Soltech IT engineer Richard Witcombe described.

Please follow these simple measures to protect yourself and your school from viruses:

  • Please ensure anti-virus protection is installed and updated on all computer systems, ask your technician about this on their next scheduled visit if your not sure how this is done.
  • Be extremely cautious when opening emails and other attachments. Viruses can come from known contacts, whom themselves have become infected, whilst other virus can come from external sources.
  • Don’t follow any links to external websites that you are not familiar with.
  • If you become infected call the helpdesk: 01275 332835 and ensure you shut down the computer immediately preventing the virus spreading.
